Two more COVID-19 deaths, 98 fresh cases in Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 8 (UNI) Two more COVID-19 related deaths of septuagenarian male patients in different private hospitals here in Meghalaya taking the fatality figure due to the ongoing pandemic to 122 and 98 fresh infections added up to 602 active cases, while 113 recoveries from the viral disease surged the number of recovered persons in Meghalaya to 11,686 as on Tuesday, health officials said.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that 74-year-old Vanlal Faka Hmar, who was diagnosed with severe COVID Pneumonia, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension, succumbed to the viral infection on December 5 at Woodland Hospital.

While Bhawan Singh Rai (79) died on Tuesday at Nazareth Hospital after battling with COVID-19 Pneumonia, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus,Hypertension and other ailments, the medical official said.

Of the new COVID-19 cases registered on Tuesday, Dr. War said 73 are from East Khasi Hills district, 11 in West Garo Hills district, eight in Ri-Bhoi district, three in South West Garo Hills district, two in East Jaintia Hills district and one in East Garo Hills district even as two cases were transferred from West Garo Hills district to South West Garo Hills district and two other cases had migrated from West Garo Hills district to Assam.

With 381 active Covid-19 cases and 100 deaths due to the infection, East Khasi Hills, including Shillong remains the most affected district in the State, followed by West Garo Hills with 102 positive cases and 14 fatalities due to the viral infection.

On the other hand, of the new recoveries from the viral disease recorded on Tuesday, Dr. War said 63 were from East Khasi Hills, 39 from West Garo Hills district, four from East Jaintia Hills district, three from South West Garo Hills district, two from Ri-Bhoi district and one each from East Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

Meanwhile, of the 2,58,439 persons tested for Covid-19 till date, 2,46,029 tested negative for the virus, even as 167 persons are in institutional quarantine and 366 in home isolation, even as 68,953 persons from outside entered the State, which had 33 containment zones, where positive cases have been detected.

So far, Meghalaya has registered 12410 Covid-19 cases, including 122 deaths with 0.98 case fatality rate, 602 active cases and 11686 recoveries.
