Noida: Gautam Budh Nagar witnessed a significant dip in the number of daily average of active
Covid cases between the last week of November and the first week of this month. Besides, there was a slight drop in the positivity rate in the district as well.
In the last eight days of November (23-30), the daily average of
active Covid
cases was recorded at 1,264. The number went down to 1,089 in the first six days of December (1-6) — a 16% decline. Meanwhile, the positivity rate dipped from 5.69% to 4.7% in the corresponding periods, according to the health department data.
Meanwhile, the officials have credited the development to the end of the festival season. Apart from this, the strictness of administration, increased testing, including challans for no masks, random and focus testing are also said to be reasons behind the dip in
positive cases despite an increase in testing.
“Our testing numbers continue to be high as there are 4,500-5,000 tests conducted every day in both government and private labs. We have noticed that positivity rate has gone down quite a bit. However, we cannot let our guards down,” Suhas LY, district magistrate (GB Nagar) told TOI.
Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Deepak Ohri said the infectivity level has come down.“As against the spike during the festival season that happened as people were roaming freely, now most of them are at home. Hence, less movement can also be attributed to the fewer number of positive cases,” said the CMO.
“We used to get many critical or senior comorbid patients. That number has fallen in the last 1.5 weeks,” said Dr Ajit Kumar, Sharda hospital spokesperson.
The total number of patients was less than 100 in all three government Covid hospitals – GIMS, Sharda and Noida Covid hospital sector 39 - till December 6. Of the current active cases – 1,038 patients on December 6 — nearly 50% (513) patients are in home isolation.
“People have become more aware. Drivers without masks are being fined so many are conscious of the penalty,” said Dr Sunil Kumar, medical superintendent Yatharth Covid hospital Noida extension.
