Tuesday 8 December 2020 | 16:17 CET | News

Russian operator MTS has launched its 5G-ready network on the Blue Line of the St Petersburg Metro, reports Comnews.ru. Broadband at up to 100 Mbps is available in a section between metro stations Parnas and Kupchino. The network was deployed to enable a quick switch to the 5G standard in future.

VoLTE services are also available on the network. The operator plans to launch its network in most tunnels of the St Petersburg Metro within a year.

Earlier this March, Russian mobile operators MTS, Beeline and Tele2 Russia signed a cooperation agreement on the deployment of infrastructure in tunnels of the St Petersburg Metro. Voice and data services are planned to become available in all metro tunnels.
