THANE: Two bodies of langur monkeys were found buried after allegedly being electrocuted at Wagle Estate area in the Thane district of Maharashtra on Monday.
The forest officials, however, suspect that they were assaulted.
The Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) had received a distress call about two monkeys having suffered electric shock.
Thane RDMC chief Santosh Kadam, said, “We reached the spot to rescue the mammals, but were told that they had died due to electrocution and their bodies were buried by someone. We then contacted the forest department and the bodies were removed.”
The forest authorities stated that out of the two monkeys, one was an adult male aged four-five years while the other was a one-year-old female.
“We are investigating as to who had buried the mammals. We are not sure if the monkeys were electrocuted or were hurt on purpose.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to Sanjay Gandhi National Park,” said range forest officer, Thane, Narendra Muthe.
