SFs launch CASO after militants escape in Srinagar

Srinagar, Dec 7 (UNI) Security forces on Monday launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) after militants escaped following a brief exchange of fire with forces at a checkpoint in the summer capital, Srinagar.

An official said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Narbal in Srinagar outskirts on Monday. “Security forces signaled a driver of a vehicle to stop at the checkpoint, but he drove past and stopped at a distance,” he said.

He said one of the militant onboard the vehicle fired at security force personnel who retaliated ensuing in brief exchange of fire. “The militants later fled from the spot,” he said.

He said additional security forces were rushed to the area and a search operation was launched to nab the militants. “A civilian received minor injuries when he fell while trying to move towards safety,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that a security force personnel’s rifle went off accidentally.
