Homicide squad investigating after man dies following altercation

A man has died following an altercation at a home in Victoria's north-east.

Police were called to a property on Bayley Street in Alexandra, 130 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, about 1.40am on Monday.

A man, who is yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead.

A 62-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He remains in custody and has not been charged.

A crime scene has been set up at the address and homicide detectives are investigating.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing, a police spokesman said.
