Vasco: The Chicalim Village Development Committee (CVDC) met on Saturday to prepare 2021-22 gram panchayat development plan (GPDP), at the panchayat premises.
Most CVDC members provided constructive suggestions towards planned development of the village. Various issues which were raised by the members included finance resource generation, garbage management, sanitation, groundwater management, illegal bore wells, stray cattle nuisance, dry waste problem, etc. Issues raised were well received by the attendees. Though only one member, Alka Damle placed her suggestions in writing in advance, the panchayat secretary Kapil Naik requested all attendees as well as other members to submit in writing all suggestions that need to be incorporated into the GPDP, and need to be forwarded by next week so that the same can be taken up during the next meeting on December 19.
The members emphasised that if the Chicalim villagers continue to take active and vibrant role, then the village shall see sensible development. The meeting was chaired by Chicalim sarpanch Sebastiao Pereira.
The convenor of the CVDC was Custodio D›Costa. CVDC members who gave their suggestions towards strengthening the planning process included Cyril Fernandes, Dr Wanda Araujo, Roopa Naik, Cynthia Miranda, Zina Varugis and Pratap Mardolkar. Rui Araujo spoke about the confusion caused on the appointment of CVDC convenor and requested that the appointment be reviewed in view of clarifications provided by the GIPARD experts.
