Four of the five cyclonic storms in 2020 were in a very severe category. Amfan was a super cyclonic storm. The meteorological department gave this information on Sunday.
Director-General of Meteorological Department Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that since 1990, four cyclonic storms have been formed every year in the East and West Sea. In such a situation, it is now normal to have five storms in a year.
The first storm of 2020 was Amfan which rose from the Bay of Bengal and then turned into a super cyclonic storm. It was the most powerful storm after the super cyclonic storm in Odisha in 1999. Amfan caused havoc in West Bengal and parts of Bangladesh. 15 days after Amfan, a natural storm arose from the Arabian Sea. It collided with Alibaug near Mumbai and helped in the normal arrival of monsoon in Kerala.
