Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane on Saturday evening clinched a historic second treble of trophies in one season after guiding Al Ahly to the Egypt Cup in a penalty shoot-out win over Tala El-Gaish.

The Egyptian giants seemed headed for victory but a late equaliser in additional time saw extra-time needed. Mosimane's side proved victorious by a 3-2 penalty shoot-out thanks to heroics by veteran goalkeeper Mohamed el Shenawy.

The win sees Mosimane lift three trophies in quick succession in his first two months in charge since his highly-publicised move from PSL champions Sundowns.

"I would like to thank our President Mahmoud El Khatib and our board of directors who gave me the chance to take the team's responsibility," Mosimane said.

"Also, I would like to thank the players who did their best, my family and the coaching staff."

The Red Devils had already mathematically clinched the Egyptian Premier League title upon Mosimane's appointment before then going on to lift the CAF Champions league and lastly the Egypt Cup.

Mosimane could remarkably even lift a fourth trophy as his side will contest the CAF Super Cup against CAF Confederations Cup winners RS Berkane at the Cairo International Stadium on Thursday.

The 56-year-old, who became the most decorated coach in South African football, had earlier in the season lifted the 2019/2020 Absa Premiership, Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup.

Sundowns also became South Africa's most successful team after clinching a record-setting 10th league title.

Al Ahly, voted Africa's club of the century have lifted a treble since the 2006 campaign.
