Ludhiana, December 5
Deputy District Education Officer (Elementary) Kuldeep Singh has been chargesheeted by the department.
The Vigilance Bureau had conducted an inquiry against him and submitted a report confirming that he took a bribe of Rs 70,000 from a private school.
It was in March 2018 that a Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyaan clerk, Amit Mittal, was caught red-handed by Atam Nagar MLA, Simarjit Singh Bains, with a bribe amount of Rs 70,000.
Mittal had alleged that Deputy DEO and Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyaan legal adviser Harvinder Singh had asked him to get the money from the school staffer. The school was reportedly being run without affiliation and lacked infrastructure and there were some discrepancies in following the Right to Education Act as well. Mittal had then said that the deal was struck for Rs 70,000 to remove the discrepancies and he was only collecting money as told by his seniors.
Secretary Education Krishan Kumar has asked him to submit his reply within 21 days and give clarification, if any, on the allegations against him.
Despite repeated attempts, DEO (Elementary) could not be contacted for comments.
