Pakistan's coronavirus positivity rate hit a record 9.71 percent today as 3,795 new COVID-19 cases were detected, taking the nationwide tally to 4,20,294, reported news agency PTI citing the health ministry. The country also reported 37 more deaths in one day, pushing the number of fatalities across Pakistan to 8,398. A total of 2,539 are in critical conditions, said the Ministry of National Health Services. After carrying out 39,076 tests in the last 24 hour, the national tally of cases reached 4,20,294, it said.

A proposed COVID-19 relief bill is expected to get backing from President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell but it won't include $1,200 in direct payments to most Americans, a Republican senator involved in the bipartisan talks says.
President Trump has indicated that he would sign a $908 billion package theres only one $908 billion package out there and its ours, Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said yesterday. The pain of the American people is driving this, and Im optimistic that both those leaders will come on board.
With time running out, lawmakers from both parties were closing in on the final language that would provide roughly $300 in extra federal weekly unemployment benefits, leaving the issue of cash payments for President-elect Joe Biden to wrestle over with a new Congress next year.
The package to be released today would be attached to a larger year-end spending bill needed to avert a government shutdown this coming weekend. (AP)

The touring Pakistan squad has returned negative in the fifth round of COVID-19 tests and will now be able to leave their managed isolation tomorrow, subject to clearance from the health ministry, reported news agency PTI citing New Zealand Cricket. The 53-member Pakistan team was denied the right to train while in managed isolation in New Zealand after eight members of the touring squad had tested positive for COVID-19.

The COVID-19 caseload in Maharashtra's Thane district has reached 2,32,922 with the addition of 521 new cases of the viral infection, an official said today. The district has also reported 11 more deaths due to COVID-19, taking the toll to 5,744, he said. Currently, there are 7,144 active COVID-19 cases in the district, while 2,20,034 patients have recovered, he said. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the district is 94.47 percent, while the mortality rate stands at 2.47 percent. Coronavirus in Maharashtra LIVE Updates | Fire at COVID-19 hospital in Thane

A fire broke out at a COVID-19 hospital at Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra's Thane district, but there was no casualty, a police official said today. The blaze erupted around 9 pm yesterday at the private hospital in Ulhasnagar township, located around 25 km from the district headquarters, due to a short-circuit in an air-conditioning unit, the official said. Firemen from a local fire station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze within an hour, he said. (PTI)
