The city police have warned college students of stringent action if they indulge in rowdyism or create ruckus on buses, something which they are notorious for. The warning on Sunday came ahead of the reopening of colleges for final year students on Monday.
Chennai: In a video, Joint Commissioner (North) V Balakrishnan advised students not to indulge in activities while travelling on MTC buses, including foot board travelling and other activities that would cause trouble to fellow passengers.
“It is against law, and parents should advise students to stay away from such activities. Be it students or anti-socials in the guise of students, stern action will be initiated against them,” the officer added in the video.
The officer issued the stern warning, as colleges are set to reopen after remaining shut for nearly eight months due to the lockdown imposed as part of COVID-19 control measures. Now the lockdown norms have been relaxed, and classes are resuming for final-year college students from Monday.
In the past, there have been several instances of students being arrested in possession of weapons on the first day of college reopening. These are used to threaten students of other colleges in the same bus route. Videos of wielding machetes on buses have gone viral, much to the dismay of MTC crew and public.
