IndiGo on Monday said it has refunded credit shells for 90% of those passengers who booked their flights during the two-month flight ban from March 25 to May 24.
The airline plans to refund the remaining 10% by the end of January 31, it said in a press statement. This means that the airline that controls 60% of market share will issue refunds after a long delay, despite the Supreme Court's order on October 1 that the credit shells for tickets booked during the lockdown should be reimbursed within three weeks.
The 90% passengers who have been paid their dues total to 20 lakh customers approximately, the airline's spokesperson clarified to The Hindu. This amount stands at Rs 1,000 crore.
The announcement means that passengers who were issued credit shells for bookings made before the lockdown are yet to receive their refunds. The SC allows airline's flexibility in this respect, permitting them to park passenger's monies in credit shells upto March 31, 2021
While the Supreme Court has ordered refunds for passengers, airlines and travel portals have struggled to comply with the directions.
