For revenge travelling

Sharad Malhotra, who is playing Veer Singhania in the hit show Naagin 5, says he just wants to head out to any place

Audiences have loved you as Veer Singhania in Naagin 5. How do you feel about this role?

You cannot say the audience loves you because of this or that. It’s just that people connected with Veer, they just felt that he was a likable guy. He is evil, but he is also a nice guy. It’s a nice blend of goodness and evil.

What gave you the confidence to take up a negative character?

The first day when I shot as Veer, I was under- confident, but after seeing the first episode, and the kind of response I got, I was convinced. It was unexpected.

How difficult or easy is it to play Veer?

It was not easy initially. I had to lose a lot of weight to play Veer. I had to grow facial hair, I had to wear contact lenses, and it’s not easy wearing lenses for 12 hours a day.

How will you describe your chemistry with your co-star Surbhi?

Surbhi is chilled out and easy-going. We got along from the very first day. If there is something that I don’t like about her then I let her know, and if there is something that she doesn’t like about me then she lets me know that. That is the kind of trust, belief, and confidence we have in each other.

Do you feel Veer will create an impact on your career?

I am hoping, because I feel every actor needs a certain character in his life, in his journey, to push him. I am hoping Veer does great for my career and also for me as a person, to my confidence, to my belief and to my personality.

Post Covid, which places do you wish to holiday in?

There is a very long list actually, because there is something called ‘revenge travelling’. At the moment, I am in that mood. I just want to head out anywhere, because we have been locked in literally for an entire year.
