Revenue official attacked in Jammu outskirts, couple among 3 arrested

Jammu, Dec 7 (UNI) Police on Monday arrested a couple among three persons for allegedly attacking a revenue official (Tehsildar) in Ranbir Singh Pura area here on city outskirts.
Police spokesman here said that acting swiftly, a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO), Inspector Jai Pal Sharma arrested three persons including a lady when the trio had gone to Sub District Magistrate office and attacked Tehsildar in R S Pura.
Avtar Singh, Johnny Singh and Balwant Kour, wife of Avtar Singh after a land dispute went to the office of SDM, threatened the staff of dire consequences if the decision was not tilted in their favour.
“When they were told that the work would be done on merit, Avtar Singh and Jonny Singh attacked the Tehsildar while Balwant Kour tried to self immolate herself,” the police spokesman said.
He said that sensing the gravity of the situation SDM R S Pura, Ram Lal Sharma informed the SDPO R S Pura Shabir Khan following which the team rushed to the spot and acted swiftly and arrested the trio.
A case has been registered and investigation initiated, he added.
