MUMBAI: For the third day in a row the state reported over 5,000 new cases of Covid-19 and over 100 fatalities on Friday. There were 5,229 cases and 127 deaths.
It was also the third day in a row that the state reported a rise in fatalities.

The Covid-19 case tally since the outbreak in the state reached 18,42,587 and the death toll touched 47,599.
The city reported 813 cases and 14 deaths, taking the tally to 2.8 lakh and toll to 10,945. The number of discharged patients was at 880, higher than the number of admissions for the day. The recovery rate was 91% and the doubling rate, 243 days.
"Clearly, the first wave of Covid is on the wane in Mumbai and Maharashtra," Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of the state government task force on Covid-19, said.
Despite the intermingling of people before and during Diwali, there was not a substantial rise in cases, a sign of herd immuinity, said Joshi.
The higher temperature this winter might have helped avert a surge.
"We need to wait until January to rule out a second wave," Joshi said. "Most cities such as New York and London had registered a drop in cases, but saw a second wave."
At Nair Hospital, designated a Covid-only hospital in April-June with more than 1,000 dedicated beds for coronavirus infection, there were only 297 in-patients. "About 50% of the ICU beds and 60% of the oxygen-supported beds are vacant," dean Dr Ramesh Bharmal said.
At 83,859, the active cases in the state showed a decline. After the discharge of 6,776 patients, the total discharges stood at 17.1 lakh.
In the city, active cases numbered 13,754.
Public health department data showed the week case fatality rate (CFR) declining. The CFR from November 18 to 24 was 1.5%, which slid to 1.4% in week from November 25 to December 1. As of December 1, the doubling rate in the state was almost 225 days.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region added 1,672 cases and 23 deaths, taking its tally to 6.3 lakh and toll to 18,625.
Kalyan-Dombivli reported 124 cases and two deaths, taking the tally to 54,584 and toll to 1,065. There were 1,668 patients under treatment.
In Thane, there were 168 new cases and three deaths, and 169 discharges. The tally was 52,306 and the toll, 1,185.
In Navi Mumbai, 162 cases were reported, taking the tally to 48,787. Three deaths increased the toll to 994.
In Panvel, 81 new cases were reported, taking the tally to 25,729. The death toll increased by one to 581.
