Taloja jail provides straw, sipper to father Stan Swamy

Mumbai, Dec 5 (UNI) Tribal rights activist Father Stan Swamy, an accused in 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence case, has been provided straw and sipper by the Taloja jail authorities as requested by him.
Swamy, 83, through his lawyer Sharif Shaikh on Friday informed the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Judge D E Kothalikar that he has been provided with straw and sipper and winter clothes by the jail authorities.
It may be recalled that Father Stan is suffering from various health issues including Parkinson’s disease and he is unable to hold even a glass.
According to his lawyer, he carried a small bag that contained a few belongings, including a straw and a sipper at the time of his arrest.
Earlier, the octogenarian had filed an application in the special court seeking direction to the NIA that the straw and sipper to be return to him. After three weeks, the probe agency had submitted that they have not seized any such items at the time of his arrest.
On November 26, the NIA special court had directed the jail superintendent to file his reply on the application following in which Swamy informed the Court on Friday that he got the things.
