Seven injured in fire at Magellan Corpus Christi, Texas, tank farm

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Seven contract workers were injured in a fire on Saturday at the Magellan Midstream Partners petroleum storage tank farm in Corpus Christi, Texas, a company spokesman said.

The fire broke out at about 10 a.m. CST (1600 GMT) on Saturday, said Magellan spokesman Bruce Heine.

"The tank was being cleaned by contractors at the time of the incident," Heine said. "Unfortunately, there are reports of injuries. The fire has been extinguished at this time."

Seven people were injured in the fire, Heine said. KRIS-TV said injured workers were being treated at a Corpus Christi hospital.

The Magellan tank farm is located near Valero Energy Corp's and Citgo Petroleum Corp's refineries in Corpus Christi. Both companies told KRIS-TV the fire was not at their refineries.

Magellan operates pipelines, storage farms and terminals for petroleum products.

The law firm he leads has been sued by at least four payday lenders and one legal services company this year, all of them alleging unpaid bills, The Daily Beast previously reported. In April, another lender accused the firm of owing them $65 million. The debts, plus an unspecified rehab stint for Pierce earlier this year, aligned with a recent exodus of more than 60 lawyers from Pierce’s firm.Pierce and Wood advertised the FightBack foundation as a way for Rittenhouse’s fans—of which there are many on the right—to donate money to his defense. But in a Thursday court appearance, prosecutors argued that the money stream could act as a “slush fund” to pay off Pierce’s debts.Pierce had no income and monthly expenses of $49,481, prosecutors alleged in a motion. He was also approximately $1.2 million in debt and was being sued for allegedly violating the rental agreement on his $1.3 million home.“This creates a potential conflict of interest for attorney Pierce,” the motion read, as reported by The Chicago Tribune. “Given his own substantial personal debts, his involvement with an unregulated and opaque ‘slush fund’ provides ample opportunity for self-dealing and fraud. Other sceptics include shadow trade secretary Emily Thornberry and shadow justice secretary David Lammy, both prominent remainers, as well as shadow Scotland secretary Ian Murray. On Friday evening Lord Kinnock, the former Labour leader, also waded into the row, telling peers that backing the deal would be politically "lethal" for the party. "We must abstain and explain that this is the rational course when faced with a damaging ‘yes’ and a disastrous ‘no’,” he wrote in a private Whatsapp group.
