MUMBAI: The education department will announce the second merit list for first year junior college (FYJC) students at 11am on Saturday after a nearly three-month delay. More than 2.4 lakh seats are on offer for students in Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The second merit list, which was originally scheduled to be announced on September 10, was postponed after the Supreme Court’s interim stay on the Maratha quota for admissions this year. The delay has resulted in loss of academic time for junior colleges.

Key dates
Dec 5, 11 am: Display of second merit list
Dec 5, 11.30 am to Dec 9, 5 pm: Students to click on proceed for admission if they

want to confirm allotted seat and junior colleges to confirm, reject or cancel
applications. Registration to open for new applicants

While the number of seats in the open category pool has increased by 15,968, since the government decided to implement the court order and move ahead without the Maratha quota, principals said they are unable to forecast how the cut-offs would look like. “So many days have passed and children might be anxious to complete their admissions which might influence their choice of colleges too. At our college, the number of seats in the open category will remain the same and those are very few,” said a junior college principal.

Most of the popular junior colleges are minority institutions and the court order doesn’t affect them. The education department allowed students to change their college preferences ahead of the second round of admissions.
