LUDHIANA: The Khanna Police on Friday arrested three drug peddlers from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut after it recovered more than 57,000 intoxicant tablets from their possession near Doraha in the city. The accused were identified as Arshad, Mohd Imran and Farman, all residents of Mohalla Dharampura in Sardhana in Meerut.
Giving the details, SSP of Khanna, Gursharandeep Singh Grewal on Saturday said, the cops have started a special campaign against drug traffickers. He added that during this campaign, a police party had set up a special check post in front of a hospital on GT Road near Doraha on Friday.
Police officials said that during checking of suspicious vehicles, they stopped a Hyundai Verna car bearing suspicion. During questioning, those in the car identified themselves as Arshad, Imran and Farman.
Cops said that on searching the car, they recovered 57,700 intoxicant tablets. They added that a case under sections of NDPS Act was registered against the accused and all of them were arrested.
The SSP said that during interrogation, the accused revealed that Imran has a medical store in Meerut from where he took this consignment which was to be delivered to someone near Jalandhar. He added that the culprits are still being questioned and there is a possibility of major disclosures from them.
