Kerala: 5,718 more contract Covid, test positivity rate at 9.9%

THIRUVANTHAPURAM: The state reported 5,718 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, of which 5,623 had contracted the virus through local transmission. The sources of infection in 572 were unknown while 60 healthcare workers were infected on the day.
A total of 6,25,767 cases have been reported to date, of which 5,61,874, have recovered, including 5,496 on Friday. There are 61,401 active cases in the state.
In a 24-hour period, 61,401 samples were tested in the state and positivity rate was recorded at 9.9%. Meanwhile, 29 more deaths were confirmed as Covid-related, taking the toll in the state to 2,359. As of Friday, 867 patients are in ICUs and 215 are on ventilator support.
Malappuram reported the highest number of positive cases, 943 followed by Kozhikode, 773, Kottayam, 570, Thrissur, 528, Ernakulam, 486, Palakkad, 447, Alappuzha, 394, Kollam, 318, Thiruvananthapuram, 279, Kannur, 275, Idukki, 216, Wayanad, 180, Pathanamthitta, 163 and Kasaragod, 146.
The district-wise tally of locally transmitted cases: Malappuram, 903, Kozhikode, 735, Kottayam, 559, Thrissur, 512, Ernakulam, 359, Palakkad, 234, Alappuzha, 376, Kollam, 314, Thiruvananthapuram, 174, Kannur, 223, Idukki, 177, Wayanad, 172, Pathanamthitta, 115, and Kasaragod, 138.
Kannur had the most infections (13) among healthcare workers, followed by Thiruvananthapuram, eight, Thrissur and Ernakulam, seven, Palakkad, six, Pathanamthitta, five, Malappuram, four, Kozhikode, three, Idukki, Wayanad and Kasaragod, two each and Kollam, one.
The recovery count at the district level on Friday was: Thiruvananthapuram, 451, Kollam, 662, Pathanamthitta, 130, Alappuzha, 548, Kottayam, 500, Idukki, 109, Ernakulam, 440, Thrissur, 377, Palakkad, 444, Malappuram, 796, Kozhikode, 554, Wayanad, 139, Kannur, 276 and Kasaragod, 70.
There are 3,14,029 people under isolation in the state, including 2,98,929 under home or institutional quarantine and 15,100 admitted to hospitals. On Friday, 1,726 people were admitted to hospitals in the state.
Six new hotspots were declared and 38 areas were excluded leaving 444 hotspots in the state.
