After the continuous rain in the suburbs, roads in Periyar Nagar, Adambakkam, are flooded with sewage mixed rainwater on Friday.

Chennai: Residents here said that Periyar Nagar Second Street is flooded and it emanates a stench. The situation is worse on Sixth Street since as water has started to enter the households, following clog in the drainage pipeline. Residents have requested officials take steps to remove the clog but no action has been taken yet. They complained that they are wary of the spread of communicable diseases. Some of the houses even had snaked entering them through the water.
Meanwhile, residents of Tambaram have started to place sandbags in front of their house to prevent water from entering. There are around 500 families living in Thirumalai Nagar near Sembakkam. The Sembakkam lake has reached its full capacity following the recent rain and the surplus water is flooding the roads in Thirumalai Nagar. The residents said they are running from post to pillar with complaints. “Municipal officials here asked us to contact PWD and when the PWD was contacted, they said the Municipality is responsible,” a resident said.
