Bengaluru, Dec 4 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday appealed to the pro-Kannada organisations to withdraw their call for statewide bandh tomorrow as his government is making all-out efforts to protect the interests of Kannada people in the state.
"I am interested in taking all the people together and not discriminating. Hence there is no need for bandh call as it will affect the common people who are already suffering due to Corona. Bandh will affect the economy which is yet to recover after more than seven month blackout," he added.
Various Kannada organisations have given a call for statewide on December 5 to protest against formation of Maratha Development Authority.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Yediyurappa said, "Our government is committed to the development of Kannada. The Maratha Development Authority was created to protect the interests of Marathi speaking people who are staying in the State in large numbers."
Elaborate bandobast was made by the police in the state in view of bandh call given by various Kannada organisations. "More than 15,000 police personnel including 12 DCP, ACP, Inspectors will be deployed at vulnerable points. We have not received any application for permission for holding demonstration or protest rally and even it was received it will not be permitted and action will be taken against those who take law into their own hands by forcing shops and business establishment to close down and indulge in creating law and order problem," Commissioner of Police Kamal Panth told newsmen.
Meanwhile, as per Chief Minister's tour programme he was scheduled to attend BJP State Core Committee meeting to be held at Belagavi tonight and participate in the party's State Working Committee meeting also in Belagavi tomorrow.
Most of the organisations have expressed their moral support to the Bandh but have expressed their inability to participate physically as they are yet to recover from the economic downfall due to Corona.
