For the first time in the Madras High Court, a husband and wife became judge and both took an oath on the same day. Advocate General Vijay Narayan said that Justice Murali Shankar Kuppuraju and Justice Tamil Selvi T Valayapalayam created judicial history by doing so.
Apart from the couple, eight other judges took oath in the Madras High Court. In his address, Narayan said, Justice Kuppuraju has married Justice Tamilselvi. For the first time in the history of the Madras High Court, it has happened that husband and wife have sworn in the same day as the judge. Earlier in November 2019, Justice Vivek Puri and Justice Archana Puri were sworn in on the same day in the Punjab High Court and both were spouses.
