CCpur, December 03 2020: An unknown disease, which experts believe could have been Swine fever is killing pigs in Churachandpur with the latest reported near Mata Mualtam village where the carcass of two grown pigs were dumped on the roadside.

Last month there were similar cases reported on social media but the case could not be tracked as the carcasses were removed by some unknown people after it made it to the social media.

With the two dead pigs now sighted near Mata Mualtam there are growing concern that some kind of disease is infecting the swine population, which incidentally is the meat of choice for winter feast.

When contacted, officials from Veterinary Department were not sure of the disease that might have killed the pigs but claimed that chances of it being a case of Swine Flu is minimal.

In most probability it could be Swine fever that killed the pigs said an official but he too could not be sure as the department has received no formal reports or observe any of it till date.

While requesting the public to report to them in case of any disease infecting their swine, the department officials said Swine fever though very much contagious to animals may not be contagious to humans.
