DMK deputy general secretary A Raja on Thursday dared Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for a public debate on whose party was corrupt. Raja demanded that the Chief Minister should tender an apology if he cannot organise such a debate.
Chennai: Hitting back at the CM for calling the DMK a corrupt party, Raja said that no DMK leader was convicted for corruption, whereas the former AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa was convicted in the disproportionate assets case. Daring the CM for a public debate in three days, the DMK deputy general secretary said, “If you have courage, organize the debate in the Fort. Invite media. Bring your whole cabinet. Bring your advocate general for support. I am ready to debate with you people on whose party is corrupt. Do you have the courage for the debate? If not, tender an apology in public.”
Drawing a distinction between his deposition in the 2G case and the DA case against Jayalalithaa which was dragged for nearly two decades, Raja cited the Madras High Court order holding that there was preliminary evidence against the CM and said that Palaniswami should vacate the stay obtained against the HC order and face the corruption case, if he has the courage. Slamming the CM for painting the DMK as corrupt even as the former AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa was ordered to pay Rs 100 crore fine in the DA case verdict, Raja said the 2G case appeal has not even been numbered and the CM should tender an apology for blaming the DMK for 2G case.
Criticising the grand reception offered by the AIADMK for Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the DMK leader wondered if the entire Cabinet had ever received a Union Home Minister at the airport. They did it because there were corruption cases against all the Ministers, he added.
