NEP will prove to be a game changer: Dr Pokhriyal

New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on Friday said the National Education Policy 2020 is designed keeping in mind the overall development of students and will prove to be a game changer for the entire education system.

Addressing the ninth convocation of IIT Bhubaneswar here virtually, Dr Pokhriyal said "Education is a long-term investment, which will benefit in many decades. Through this policy, we are just planting seeds in a huge field and we should wait for this crop for the results to come in our industry and society. I am confident that IIT Bhubaneshwar will take part in this task. ”

He praised the remarkable work done by IIT Bhubaneswar, particularly the work done by the institute during the Covid crisis.

"IIT Bhubaneswar has developed a reliable system of conducting examinations online rather than the traditional system which is highly commendable. Besides, even when the Covid epidemic was at its peak, the institute continued education through online medium without missing a single day," he noted.

The Union Minister asserted that the new NEP defines reforms in all areas of education. "One of the main objectives of this policy is to include technical education - from school education to higher education. The new NEP lays substantial emphasis on holistic and multi-disciplinary education as well as additional educational activities such as sports and humanities subjects."

On the occasion, he inaugurated the students' activity centre, sports complex and the School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management.

Union Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre, Chairman of Executive Board RP Singh, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar Prof Rajkumar, members of the faculty, students and their parents were also involved, an official release here said.
