Broadcom released its expanded portfolio of 7nm 800G PAM-4 PHY devices for data centre, cloud and AI networks. The portfolio includes a new family of 800G optical PHY devices, the BCM8780X, optimised for QSFP-DD800 (quad small formfactor pluggable) and OSFP (octal small formfactor pluggable) transceiver module applications and an 800G 8:8 retimer PHY device, the BCM87360, designed for line card applications. Samples of the BCM87800, BCM87802 and BCM87360 are available now.
The 800G PHY portfolio comprises the BCM87800/BCM87802 ultra-low power 7nm 800G optical PHYs for transceiver modules and BCM87360, what the company calls the industry’s first 7nm 800G 8:8 retimer PHY for line cards.
The Broadcom BCM8780X single-chip 800GbE PAM-4 PHY transceiver modules are capable of driving eight lanes of 112-Gbps PAM-4 at 56 Gbaud, while supporting DR8/2xFR4 optical links, the company said. Both leverage Broadcom’s 7-nm PAM-4 PHY transceiver technology platform.
The Broadcom BCM87360 is a single-chip, 8×106-Gbps full-duplex Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM-4) PHY. It's a low-power device supporting both the PAM-4 and Non Return-to-Zero (NRZ) data formats. It supports various retimer modes and 25G, 50G, 100G, 200G, 400G and 800G line-card front panel applications. Fabricated with low-power 7-nm CMOS technology, it's available in a 17-mm×17mm, 0.8-mm pitch, 400-pin BGA, RoHS-compliant package.
