GHMC Election Results 2020 Live Updates: Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) continues to maintain the lead in most of the divisions of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM fight it out for the second spot.
The saffron party, which had won only four seats in the 2016 polls, fought the polls this time with all the might at its disposal as top central leaders and union ministers campaigned for its candidates in the civic body polls.
The results are expected to be known in the evening in view of ballot papers being used as against the EVMs.

The BJP's performance, if the present trend holds, leading to the saffron party possibly netting a significant number of seats, will be seen as a massive improvement against its 2016 show of winning just four seats, in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) then. The K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samiti swept the elections four years ago, winning 99 of the 150 wards.

UPDATE | According to latest trends, the TRS was leading in about 50 seats and BJP in around 40. The SEC said Congress bagged one ward. AIMIM was leading in another 25 seats.

Telangana Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav targeted the Centre over the farmers' issue and said, "Why did Central government leaders come here to interfere in a local body election when there are so many pressing issues like the farmers' protests going on in India, is what is not understandable." He also questioned their contribution to the development of Hyderabad.

According to the officially announced results declared on 15 seats, TRS and AIMIM have won 7 seats each, while Congress has won 1 seat. The BJP which has maintained a lead in many seats have not won any seat so far.

TRS Makes Lead | TRS progress continues in Greater elections. Compared to the past, the TRS is facing stiff competition from the BJP in many seats. The TRS is also moving towards a significant majority. TRS won the Yusuf Gooda Division in this order. This is the first time the TRS has won a major election. The first success was recorded in GHMC Results 2020. The full result came in the Mehidipatnam division where the AIMIM candidate won. The results in seven seats were declared. AIMIM candidate Mohammad Majeed Hussain won. Majid Hussain served as deputy mayor. BJP candidate D Gopala Krishna came second. The MIM party contested on 51 seats in the GHMC elections. In Mehdipatnam, the result was quick as the turnout was low.

GHMC Election Result Updates: During the initial counting, BJP leads in 78 divisions, TRS in 33, AIMIM in 15 and Congress in one seat. The postal ballots are being counted before the mix ballots.

ROUNDUP | The state election officials will first count the postal ballots and later mix ballot papers from different polling booths. Around 25 ballot papers will be bundled together. After bundles are prepared, the counting will take place. In each round, around 14,000 votes will be counted. Counting of votes is taking place in 30 centres across the Telangana districts and as many as 8,152 staff are involved in the process.

Counting in First Round of GHMC Underway | The first round of counting is underway for the GHMC election. It is said that this may take another hour. Election staff also place boxes in the respective parties' boxes after thoroughly examining each ballot. Telangana High Court kept a circular issued by the State Election Commission for counting of votes of the GHMC polls in abeyance. The circular stated that ballot papers with a distinguished mark instead of a 'swastik' mark should be considered as a valid vote.

BL Santosh, BJP's General Secretary congratulated the party members of the state for the initial leads. 46.59 per cent polling was recorded in the GHMC elections. In the 2016 GHMC elections, 45.29 per cent of the votes were cast. The turnout was slightly higher this time than in the past.

First the postal ballot votes are counted. 1926 postal ballot votes were cast in all 150 divisions. Unexpected votes were cast for the BJP in the postal ballot. By 09.30 am, the BJP was leading in 46 divisions.

No Victory Rallies Allowed for 48 Hours | Police Commissioner Sajjanar said that 7,000 personnel were deployed under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate during the GHMC election counting. He said no political party was allowed to hold victory rallies for 48 hours. He said the counting would take place until 3 p.m. Special provision has been made in some places. Special security has been set up in troubled areas.

The initial trend suggests BJP leading in postal ballots in the GHMC election. There are around 1926 postal ballots as per the state election commission.
Counting of votes in the keenly-fought Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections began at 8 am on Friday. The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) set up counting centres at 30 places in the city amid tight security arrangements for the process.
Out of the total 150 wards in the GHMC, polling was held for 149 wards on December 1 anda fresh poll was conducted on Thursday in one ward (Old Malakpet). Repolling had to be conducted in the Old Malakpet ward after an error was noticed in the ballot paper during polling on December 1.
The polling on December 1 witnessed a 46.55 per cent (34.50 lakh) turnout of voters out of the total 74.67 lakh electors. The SEC had decided to conduct the election with ballot papers after consultation with major parties, the health department in view of COVID-19 pandemic and keeping in view other relevant issues, it said earlier. The lead-up to the polling witnessed a vociferous campaign by the parties.
Bolstered by its victory in the recent bypoll to Dubbak Assembly constituency, the BJP conducted a spirited campaign to win the GHMC polls to boost its chances in the 2023 Assembly polls. It has drafted its General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav, who has been its in-charge for Bihar, to supervise the poll preparations in Hyderabad.
Top leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president J P Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Smriti Irani and MoS (Home) G Kishan Reddy, who is Lok Sabha member from Secunderabad, party MP and BJYM national president Tejasvi Surya participated in the campaign. The BJP highlighted the TRS's "alliance" with the AIMIM and sought votes to provide clean and transparent administration in the city.
The TRS, however, denied any alliance with the AIMIM. The TRS campaign was led by its working president and state Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao, while party supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao addressed a public meeting.
The state's ruling party has deployed several state Ministers and legislators for canvassing in the city. The Congress's poll battle was led by its state president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Working President A Revanth Reddy (both MPs) and other senior leaders.
The TDP, once a major force in the state, sought to revive its fortunes highlighting the development witnessed in the city, including in the IT sector, during N Chandrababu Naidu's regime as Chief Minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh. The TRS and BJP leaders were engaged in a war of words.
BJP's Telangana president and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar found himself in a row following his comments that his party would conduct a "surgical strike" in the old city here, if necessary, to send away Rohingyas and Pakistanis after it won the post of Mayor in the polls. AIMIM's Akbaruddin Owaisi in a poll campaign earned the wrath of his opponents by asking whether the 'samadhis' of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao and TDP founder N T Rama Rao, built on the Hussain Sagar lake bank, would be removed as he questioned the eviction drive against "poor people" residing near water bodies. The polls in the city also assume political significance as 24 Assembly segments fall under the GHMC limits.
