International Day of People with Disabilities held

Imphal, December 03 2020: As observed annually to promote the rights and well-being qf persons with disabilities, International Day of People with Disability was observed in different locations of the State, today.

'Building back better: towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world by, for and with persons with disabilities' is the theme of this year's observation.

Senapati
International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed at MANEDA, Senapati.

In her welcome note, Veronica, teaching faculty of the Innocent Smile School, Senapati stated that the school is an inclusive special school under MANEDA that started in 2013.There are reportedly 33 children enrolled in the school for the current year where home-based rehabilitation programmes are also provided for the disabled children who are not able to come to school.

Physiotherapy is reportedly given to the children based on their needs at the school as well as awareness and home visit programmes are conducted by staff of Innocent Smile School.

Naga Women's Union (NWU), Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) and Maram Students Union (MKS) in their greetings stated that God has blessed the differently-abled persons in a different way asking them not to lose hope.

Representatives from the Senapati Disable Peoples' Association, Manipur (SDPAM) lauded MANEDA for their continuous support towards betterment of the disabled people of the district by organising the observation every year.

The Managing Director also felicitated Kunal Shrestha, 11 years old boy from Shantipur, Kanglatongbi who has only one limb but loves football wholeheartedly.

Observing International Day of People with Disabilities, Heirok Assembly Constituency MLA, Dr Thokchom Radheshyam started distributing free travel and caregiver allowance cards for the year 2020-21 to differently-abled individuals of the Constituency, today.

Altogether 72 persons have been selected for the benefits and 10 cards were distributed today during a function held at the residence of the MLA at Heirok Part (II) Thokchom Leikai.

Caregiver allowance card holders will get Rs 1,500 every month as part of the Chief Minister gi Sotharaba sing gi Tengbang scheme.

The day was also observed at Yairipok; Kakching and Moreh.
