Counting of votes begins in GHMC polls

Counting of the votes cast in all 150 divisions began at 8 a.m. at 30 places in the city with the Telangana State Election Commission deploying over 8,000 personnel.

Hyderabad: The counting of votes for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections has commenced and is progressing smoothly.

Save for a couple of centres like in Karwan where the counting commenced a bit late, at rest of the other centres, the exercise started on time.

As many as 30 counting centres have been set up across the GHMC limits. As announced by the State Election Commission, postal ballots are being counted first and it will be followed by the conventional ballots. SEC has issued 1926 postal ballots this time for those attending election duties and others, including senior citizens aged over 80 years.

For one round, 14000 votes will be counted and 14 tables have been arranged in each counting hall.

As per the initial reports, in Kapra, ASRao Nagar, Cherlapally, Meerpet, Mallapur and Nacharam divisions, BJP bagged 16 postal ballots, TRS secured 18 postal ballots, Congress 10 while 29 have been rejected.

In all, 8152 personnel are engaged in the counting exercise and 31 observers are monitoring the proceedings.

Out of 74,67,256 votes in GHMC, 34,50,331 votes have been polled and officials said the results will be announced mostly by afternoon or late evening.
