In view of persistently high inflation and a lower-than-expected contraction of the economy the RBI maintained the status quo.
Announcing the bi-monthly policy today the RBI governor, Shaktikanta Das said the
Consumer Price Index (CPI) hit a nearly six-and-a-half-year high of 7.6 per cent in October.
MPC is of the view that inflation is likely to remain elevated”, he said adding that efforts are necessary to mitigate inflationary pressures.
On bond he said Corporate bond spreads have narrowed to pre-Covid levels. Overall bond market conditions have evolved in an orderly manner and bond issuances have strengthened for those with strong credit ratings.
Recovery in rural demand is expected to strengthen further, he said.
He further said that the business sentiment of manufacturing firms is gradually improving, says Shaktikanta Das.
Private investment is still slack; capacity utilisation has not fully recovered, he said.
