Training on pre-cocoon sector held at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, December 03 2020: Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamson inaugurated the 13 days Training of Beneficiaries Oriented Programme on Pre-Cocoon Sector at Sericulture Conference hall, Ukhrul, today.

The training programme was organised by the Ukhrul District Sericulture Office.

The DC, while addressing the event, mentioned the potential of Ukhrul in sericulture and urged the farmers to take up the project to improve their economy.

The District Sericulture officer (DSO) JS Ngalangam stated that Ukhrul district produces one of the best cocoons and silk yarns in the State.

Bivoltine silkworms were reared in the district.

3500- 4000 kg of cocoons and 580-650 kg of yarns were produced annually, he added.

54 farmers under the Integrated Sericulture Development Programme (ISDP) was the main target of the training programme.

The training will focus on the scope of sericulture and imparting technical skills for the farmers.

Dr Somen Singh Sc-D, CSRTI; Dr Debraj Sc-D, CSRTI; CM Paul Rtd Sericulture officer and Birendra retired sericulture officer were engaged for the training programme.
