Hyderabad: In a dramatic late night move, BJP contestant from Puranapul K Surender, and Anthony Reddy moved separate house motions questioning a clarification order from the State Election Commission issued on Thursday.
The SEC notification said that in some polling stations during the December 1 GHMC elections, the polling officers distributed distinguished mark instead of arrow cross-mark to mark the ballot paper. The notification said: “It is clarified that if the intention of the voter is clear on marking a particular candidate, that vote can be treated as a valid vote to that candidate since it is a mistake of polling personnel…”.
Early in the day, Justice A Abhishek Reddy heard the matter in the early hours and made it clear that if the markings other than the cross arrow make a difference in the result, such results shall not be declared and shall be subject to further processes in the matter. However, If they do not, then the results can be announced.
