Cyclone Burevi: Chidambaram Nataraja Temple inundated with rainwater

CUDDALORE: The Chidambaram Nataraja Temple in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu was inundated with rainwater after the temple town received 340mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, triggered by cyclone Burevi which weakened into a deep depression.
More than one-fifth of the waterbodies in Cuddalore, Villupuram and Kallakurichi districts were brimming to its maximum capacity due to incessant rain in the last two days.
Eighty-nine of the 440 tanks in the three districts have reached their full capacity.
The water level in the Veeranam lake in Cuddalore district stood at 46.3 feet as against its full capacity of 47.5 feet as on November 4. The inflow into the lake was 4,205 cusecs and the outflow was at 1,863 cusecs (1,454 cusecs of surplus water drained through Veeranam new supply sluice to Sethiathope anicut system, 69 cusecs released for Metro water and 330 cusecs for others).
The Puducherry government has declared a holiday for government, government-aided and private schools in Puducherry and Karaikal on December 5.
