NBA 2020-21: NBA Players to get 18% salary hike due to pre-Christmas start on the 22nd of December

NBA 2020-21: The NBA 2020-21 season is starting on the 22nd of December. The preseason is starting in a week. After the decision to start the new season pre-Christmas, the NBA will save $500 million in losses.

The league also decided to allow fans in at a 25-50% capacity after following all the safety protocols. With the season set to begin in December instead of January, the league will save up to $500 Million.

The salary cap and the luxury tax will remain the same as the 2019-20 season. In future seasons, the cap and tax will increase by a minimum of 3 percent and a maximum of 10 percent.

For the 2020-21 season, the NBA’s salary cap will be $109.140 million and the luxury tax level will be $132.627 million.

What does a December start mean for the players?

Players will get a cut of the extra $500 Million in revenue that the league would save by starting the new season in December instead of January.

A 17-to-18 percent escrow of player salaries over the next two years. The withholding amount is expected to be kept down to a normal 10 percent in 2022-23.

The league also has plans to flatten out the losses players faced last season in the upcoming seasons.
