VADODARA: A 28-year-old school principal was brutally assaulted and stabbed to death by the teacher of his school in Naswadi taluka of Chhota Udepur on Friday morning. Meraman Pithia died of severe injuries on his chest and throat and his wife as well as 1.5-year-old daughter also suffered knife injuries in the incident.
The accused identified as Bharat Pithia fled from the spot after committing the murder. According to the police, the incident happened when Meraman, principal of Linda Model School, was at his home in Ramdevnagar with his wife and daughter on Friday morning. Bharat, who stays right opposite their home, barged into Meraman's house and began stabbing the latter brutally.
The police said that Meraman’s wife tried to intervene and fend off Bharat who seemed to be very angry. She suffered injuries on her chest and shoulder along with her daughter. While Meraman succumbed to injuries, his wife and daughter are under treatment in the hospital.
When asked about the reason behind the attack, Chhota Udepur deputy SP, AV Katkad said, “We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder. The deceased’s wife said that Bharat barged in their home and stabbed Meraman. We have launched a search for Bharat who is absconding.”
Bharat was to get married on December 9. The police said that Meraman and Bharat are cousin brothers and native of Junagadh in Gujarat. While Meraman joined as the school principal in Naswadi three years ago, Bharat was working there for four years.
