New Delhi: More than 90 lakh people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in India and the total active caseload of the country also continues to decline.

This week, India’s R value dipped to under 1, bringing total active cases in the country to its lowest since 22 July.

After increasing to over 1 last week, India’s R-value for Covid-19 dropped to 0.92 this week. R or effective reproduction number is a measure of how fast the infection is spreading.

The R of a country needs to be sustained under 1 for the pandemic to end.

In the last 24 hours, 36,595 people were infected with Covid-19. The number of new cases saw a slight increase compared to yesterday.

Active Covid cases in India declined to 4,16,082 Friday — the lowest since 22 July when active cases were at 4,11,133.

India’s cases account for just 2.2 per cent of the total active cases across the world.

In the last 24 hours, 540 Covid patients died across the country, with the highest number of deaths occurring in Maharashtra. This brings the total reported deaths in the country since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,39,188.

Punjab’s case fatality rate continues at 3.2 per cent — the highest in the country. Maharashtra and Sikkim also have high CFRs of 2.6 per cent and 2.2 per cent, respectively.

India’s overall case fatality rate is now 1.45.

Over the last 24 hours, 11,70,102 tests were conducted across 1,186 government laboratories and 1,010 private laboratories.

This brings the total number of tests conducted in India, so far, to 14,47,27,749.

Positivity rate

The test positivity rate, over the last 24 hours, has remained the same at 3.1 per cent — the lowest since June.

The overall TPR for India, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 6.6 per cent.

Recovered cases

As many as 42,916 people recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in India to 90,16,289.

India has the highest number of Covid recoveries in the world. Nearly 20 per cent of the world’s total recoveries are from India.

India has recorded 95,71,559 cases in total, since the beginning of the pandemic, which is the second-highest in the world. About 14 per cent of the total global coronavirus cases were reported in India.

States with highest active cases

In Maharashtra, the active caseload has reduced to 86,612. But in the last 24 hours, as many as 5,182 people have tested positive for the disease.

This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 18,37,358.

The state has the highest number of death among all states at 47,472, with 115 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Kerala has once again reported the highest number of new cases in a single day among the states with the most number of active cases.

As many as 5,376 people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 6,20,049 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of these, 2,329 patients have died, while 61,342 are active cases. The state reported 31 Covid deaths in the state in the last 24 hours.

Delhi saw a drop in the number of new cases reported in the last 24 hours, with 3,734 people testing positive for the disease.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5,82,058 people have tested positive for Covid-19. Of these, 29,120 cases are active.

In the last 24 hours, 82 Covid patients in Delhi have died. This has brought the total death toll to 9,424.

In Rajasthan, the active cases reduced to 25,544 Friday, even as 2,086 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

As many as 20 people in the state have died, which has brought the state’s total Covid-19 toll to 2,370.

With 8,89,113 Covid-19 cases, Karnataka has the second-highest number of infections in the country, second only to Maharashtra.

The state has 24,708 active Covid-19 cases as of Friday, with 1,446 new cases detected in the last 24 hours.

The state reported 13 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, which brings the total death toll of the state to 11,821.
