Panaji: The Congress party on Friday accused the BJP-led government of taking bribe for government jobs.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji along with party’s legal cell chairman advocate Carlos Ferreira, the Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar alleged that the then Power Minister Milind Naik, who is Urban Development Minister in the current ruling dispensation took bribe from 32 candidates to provide them the posts of assistant data entry operators in the electricity department in 2016 whose appointment have been quashed and set aside by the High Court.
“Rs 15 lakh each were taken by Naik from all 32 candidates. The family members of these candidates had paid bribe by selling their valuables while some borrowed, how will they repay now?” Mardolkar said.
The Congress leader sought Naik’s resignation and said that if the minister refuses to resign then Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should drop him from the state Cabinet.
“The government announced that the recruitment for 10,000 government jobs will start soon, and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is seen in a video declaring that all the jobs will be provided to BJP karyakartas. If the government doesn’t want to allow jobs on merit then Pramod Sawant should scrap Goa Public Service Commission and Goa Staff Selection Commission and publicly declare that all jobs will be either sold or provided to BJP workers,” Mardolkar said.
