Germans spent an average of EUR 65.20 per month per household on postal and telecommunication services in 2019, according to the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis). This compares with EUR 60.80 per month in 2014. Converged service spending fell over the course of the five-year period.
Last year, the public spent EUR 54.50 monthly on telecoms, up from EUR 52.30 in 2014. Expenditure for converged service subscriptions dropped to EUR 24.10 on average per household in 2019 from EUR 27.30 in 2014. Mobile telecoms service spending, including talktime, connection and standing charges, rose to EUR 20 last year from EUR 17.60 five years earlier, fixed line spending went up to EUR 7.50 from EUR 5.10 and internet access fees rose to EUR 2.70 from EUR 2.10.
Spending on communication devices, including repairs, increased to EUR 7.10 per month from EUR 4.50. Spending on postal services was unchanged between 2014 and 2019 at EUR 4, said Destatis.
The amount spent on communications rose with the size of the household. People living alone spent an average of EUR 48 per month but a two-person household spent EUR 70. Average spending levels were EUR 88 for three people, EUR 89 for four and EUR 104 monthly for five people or more.
