CHENNAI: Lakshadweep administrator Dineshwar Sharma IPS died in a Chennai hospital on Friday.
The 1979 Kerala cadre IPS officer was 66.
Sharma was a former Intelligence Bureau (IB) director and former J&K interlocutor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Sharma. The PM tweeted: “Administrator of Lakshadweep Shri Dineshwar Sharma Ji made long lasting contributions to India’s policing and security apparatus. He handled many sensitive counter terror and insurgency ops during his policing career. Anguished by his demise. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti.”
Sharma, who was admitted to MGM Healthcare on November 25 for intestinal lung disease, died around 2.40pm.
According to a press release from the hospital, Sharma was on ECMO support and suffered severe bleeding due to intra cerebral haemorrhage.
"We express our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers for their loss during this time of anguish and sorrow," the release added.
