Drivers should expect delays of 30 minutes or more on Interstate 15 in Clearfield this Sunday because of construction. And switching to the nearby parallel U.S. 89 may not help much — because construction is expected to cause weekend delays there, too.
The Utah Department of Transportation says northbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane on Sunday between 650 North in Clearfield and Riverdale Road.
One lane is scheduled to close at 11 a.m., and two lanes will close from 2 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. on Monday. UDOT is advising drivers to avoid that area if possible, or to allow extra travel time.
The lane reduction will allow crews to remove a lane split there — with some northbound lanes temporarily on both sides of the median — that has been in place to allow work on the I-15 Express Lanes widening project. With winter approaching, the crossover is being removed to allow snow removal operations to continue.
Also this weekend, drivers should expect lane restrictions on U.S. 89 in Davis County beginning Friday night as part of a project to convert that highway into a freeway.
The highway will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Mutton Hollow Road in Kaysville and Nicholls Road in Fruit Heights from Friday at 7 p.m. to Monday, Dec. 7, at 5 a.m.
