THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state on Thursday reported 5,376 new Covid-19 cases. Among this, 5,295 are cases infected through local transmission. The source of infection of 527 people was not traceable. Of those diagnosed included 81 people who have arrived from outside the state and 44 healthcare workers.
At present, there are 61,209 patients undergoing treatment while a total of 5,56,378 people have so far recovered from the disease in the state. The total number of cases reported till date has become 6,20,049. The day also saw 5,590 recoveries.
In the last 24 hours, 60,476 samples were tested and the test positivity rate is 8.9%. In the meantime, 31 more deaths were confirmed as due to Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 2,330. The number of patients admitted in various ICUs are 837 while 216 patients are on ventilator support.
Malappuram reported the highest number of positive cases — 714 — followed by Thrissur (647), Kozhikode (547), Ernakulam (441), Thiruvananthapuram (424), Alappuzha (408), Palakkad (375), Kottayam (337), Pathanamthitta (317), Kannur (288), Kollam (285), Idukki (265), Wayanad (238) and Kasaragod (90).
There are currently 3,11,237 people under isolation across the state, of which 2,95,981 people are under home or institutional quarantine while 15,256 are admitted to various hospitals. As many as 1,716 people were admitted to the hospitals on Thursday. Till now, a total of 63,38,754 samples have been sent for testing.
One place in Alappuzha district was newly declared as hotspot and nine areas were excluded. There are 473 hotspots in the state now.
