Specially-abled persons protest in Srinagar, demand implementation of RPDA 2016

Srinagar, Dec 3 (UNI) Specially-abled persons on Thursday held a demonstration in the summer capital, Srinagar, demanding implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPDA), 2016 in Jammu and Kashmir.

On international day of persons with disabilities, scores of specially-abled persons assembled at Press Enclave in Srinagar and held a protest to press for their demands to be fulfilled.

Holding placards and banners, which read, ‘we want justice’, the protestors demanded implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 in Jammu and Kashmir, including reservation in jobs. The demonstrators also highlighted other issued confronted by them. “There are seats reserved for specially-abled persons in buses, but no one adheres to that those guidelines. We don’t have railway cards, which entities us for a rebate in fare. We have been running for pillar to post to get the railway card. The officials send us from one department to another…,” a protestor said.

He said the government gives them Rs 1000 per month. However, he said despite such a low amount, they get in money once in three to four months.

Parkash Badal returns Padma Vibhushan in protest against farm acts

Chandigarh, Dec 3 (UNI) Akali stalwart, former Union Minister and five time Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Parkash Badal today returned the Padam Vibhushan award “in protest against “the betrayal of the farmers by the Government of India and against the shocking indifference and contempt with which the Govt is treating the ongoing peaceful and democratic agitation of the farmers against the three farm Acts.”

“I am who I am because of the people, especially the common farmer. Today when he has lost more than his honour, I see no point in holding on to the Padma Vibhushan honour”said the Akali stalwart in his letter to the president Ram Nath Kovind.
