Cyclone Burevi: Kerala deploys NDRF teams in 7 districts

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 2 (UNI) Eight teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in seven districts of Kerala in view of Cyclone Burevi which is likely to pass through this district in the State.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who convened an emergency meeting of top officials including the Chief Secretary, spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him about the precautionary measures taken by the state government in view of the cyclone.
The Government has also sought the help of the Navy and the Air Force to deal with any kind of emergency situation due to the cyclone, district collector Ms Navjot Khosa told newspersons here on Wednesday.
The people in the district were informed not to move outside for the next 48 hours from December three afternoon, she added.
People from dangerous zones are being shifted to 180 rehabilitation camps set up by the revenue department which plans to accommodate 11,050 people in these camps in this district. The Government took steps to set up total 2,849 camps all over the state to rehabilitate people.
Rapid Response Teams have been deployed in the city to help people living in low lying areas.
A '24X7' help line number (1077) has been announced to provide any kind of emergency help from the district collectorate.
Steps are taken to raise the shutters to bring down the water levels of various dams including Neyyar, Kallada, Kakki, Aruvikkara, Kallada, Malankara, Kundala, Siruvani, Kanjirappuzha, Walayar, Pothundi, Karappuzha in view of heavy rains due to the cyclone.
