Land-holding rights of slum dweller

Local Govt Department starts matching revenue, MC records in Patiala

Patiala, December 2

A team of Local Government Department officials has started matching revenue records with Municipal Corporation’s survey of land records of slum dwellers for providing land-holding rights to them as per the Slum Property Rights Act in the city.

As per the policy, slum dwellers are to be given property-holding rights for upto 30 square yard plots in residential areas.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) had carried out a survey of all slum localities in the city recently. Officials of the MC stated that as per the collected record there were 2,565 families in 16 slum colonies, including Bazigar Basti, Bheem Colony, Rajpura Colony, Jeevan Singh Basti, Lakkar Mandi, Muslim Basti and other places.

“A team of the Local Government Department has started matching records of the Revenue Department with slum area records collected by the MC with help of drones,” officials added. Those holding more than 30 square yard would get excess land as per collector rates, said officials. — TNS
