A few days after a businessman lodged a complaint that Rs 43.90 lakh had gone missing from his house in Foreshore Estate, police arrested his wife and her Facebook friend to whom she had given the money.
Chennai: On November 24, Thameem Ansari (40) of Mandavelipakkam, a textile businessman, had petitioned that Rs 43.90 lakh, which included his partners’ share and collected from traders, went missing from a cupboard in his house.
Since the businessman had celebrated his son’s birthday at his house in between, police inquired the kin and friends who were part of the celebration. However, police did not get any clue after which their suspicion fell on the businessman’s wife Thanseem.
She was grilled during which she admitted to having given the money to A Riaz Ahmed (38) of Purasawalkam. Police said Thanseem met Riaz Ahmed on Facebook and developed a relationship.
“Thanseem hatched a plan to steal the money a day before her son’s birthday so that the suspicion will fall on the visitors. She wanted to share the booty with her boyfriend,” said police.
Based on her confession, Riaz Ahmed was picked up and the entire money was seized. Both Thanseem and Riaz Ahmed were booked under Sections 380 of IPC and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
