Global data centre capex to hit USD 180 billion in 2024 - study

Thursday 3 December 2020 | 14:09 CET | News
Demand for data centre services has continued rising amid the coronavirus pandemic, despite its negative economic impact, according to the latest study from Omdia. Cloud and colocation service providers are expected to allocate USD 180 billion to their data centre capex in 2024, up at a CAGR of 15.7 percent from 2020, in a bid to stay ahead of customer demand and to mitigate effects from the pandemic, some still unknown.

Almost three quarters (71.5%) of data centre capital spending is seen going to IT equipment this year, for servers, storage, networking and other devices. About 19.5 percent will go towards physical infrastructure equipment and 9 percent to land and building.
