Oil Palm Project Manipur: Officials inspect nurseries

Thoubal, December 02 2020: A team of Government officials inspected oil palm nurseries at the campus of KVK, Khangabok and at Khongjom Kheba Ching, Thoubal for planting in 200 hectares of land, today.

The inspection team includes Chairman of Sub-Committee Oil Palm Manipur cum Principal Secretary Health V Vumlunmang, Commissioner of Agriculture Department M Joy Singh; Director of Agriculture Department, Laltanpuii Vanchhong and Consultant, Oil Palm Mission, Manipur MS Khaidem among others.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the inspection drive M Joy stated that seedlings of palm trees are being planted at 22 different locations of the State, including 5 at Jiribam on a trial basis.

Seedlings of palm trees planted at KVK, Thoubal were prepared in October this year and most of them are growing well, the Commissioner continued.

Saying that the seedlings will be shifted to other places after three months, he added that they will know if the seedlings will grow to its maturity or not after 13 months.

He also urged all farmers to take advantage of the oil palm cultivation project that can enhance their income generation and also make Manipur self-sufficient in edible oils.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister N Biren Singh launched the Oil Palm Project Manipur through video conferencing on November 12 .
