Rajkot: A trader was detained on Tuesday for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Jamjodhpur in Jamanagar district.
Police said the accused, Mayur Dabhi, had allegedly raped the survivor thrice in the past three months.
“Three months ago when the survivor had gone to buy groceries at Dabhi’s shop, Dabhi had allegedly dragged her to the backyard of his shop and had raped her. Thereafter, Dabhi had allegedly raped the survivor twice. Dabhi threatened to kill the survivor and his family members, if she complained about the incident to anyone,” said Y B Rana, in-charge inspector with Jamjodhpur police station.
For the past few days, the survivor had sunk into depression and had stopped talking to her family members. On Tuesday when her mother inquired with her about her behaviour, the survivor confided her sordid tale to her, following which her mother took her to the police station and lodged the complaint against Dabhi.
Dabhi was detained within a half an hour of the lodging of the complaint. Rana said that Dabhi would be formally arrested once he was made to undergo the Covid-19 test.
Box: Minor raped in Tankara
Rajkot: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Savadi village of Tankara taluka in Morbi district on Tuesday. Police said two persons were involved in the crime. While refusing to divulge the names of the accused, citing secrecy of the investigation, the police said while one accused raped the survivor, the other aided him by guarding him while he was committing the crime. Both the accused had allegedly kidnapped the survivor.
